ENSnaps (Clouddroid) decomissioned
Clouddroid, formerly ENSnaps has been decomissioned. Will be using ENSnaps instead of Clouddroid in this blog, to avoid confusion with Cloudflare.
All the domains hosted on ENSnaps has been migrated to Cloudflare, AWS and in some cases to private hosting.
It was getting harder to keep up with bots which were hitting the sites with huge traffic. And it was becoming tougher black-listing. The cost of filtering and managing bot traffic was becoming humungous.
Had to take the tough decision. Also to keep costs to customers low, there was no other option than to decommision ENSnaps and migrate the websites to Cloudflare, Google Slides in some cases. Yes, after looking at customer usage data, database was not required for many. Static websites could handle the request.
It was not possible to give at costs of the big vendors. Google started charging businesses for the email access - emails with custom domains. This package allows free access to Google Slides. CloudFlare static sites is already free of cost.
The bot traffic was taking too much of my bandwidth. ENSnaps was developed using PHP, some of the attacks were crashing the apache containers. Though everything was containerized, and any crashes would automatically restart the containers, the frequency was getting high. The slowly creeping exchange rates, resulted in ever increasing server charges.
When ENSnaps was started, there was no WYSWIG website set up tool. It was a good 10 years. Lot of learnings.
